It was a sunny day in Bookworm Forest. Tara woke up early and got Bitbit out of bed.
Tara carried a bag with her. Inside, she had a bucket, two fishing rods, some fishing line and two sharp hooks.
P.1
‘Let’s go fishing!’ said Tara.
‘I don’t know how to fish,’ said Bitbit. ‘I want to go back to sleep.’
‘Fishing is fun!’ said Tara. ‘I can teach you.’
P.2
Bitbit made some sandwiches and got his favourite snacks from the kitchen. He didn’t think fishing would be fun, but he loved picnics. He put everything in a bag and brought it to the lake. P.3
Tara and Bitbit sat by the lake. They took everything out of their bags.
Bitbit ate an apple. Tara tried to put the hook onto her fishing line.
P.4
Tara dropped her rod. She tied the line to a rock by mistake. The rod was heavy.
‘This is difficult,’ thought Tara. But she did it!
P.5
Tara and Bitbit held their fishing rods over the lake. They cast their lines, and the hooks dropped into the water. Splash!
‘We’re fishing!’ said Tara. ‘Isn’t this great? I told you!’
P.6
Lots of fish swam near the hooks, but they did not bite.
Bitbit ate a banana and cheese sandwich.
‘Do you think the fish are hungry?’ asked Bitbit.
P.7
‘We forgot to put food on the hooks!’ said Tara. ‘Fish only bite hooks with food on them.’
Bitbit looked at his picnic.
P.8
‘Do fish like grapes?’ asked Bitbit. ‘Do they eat noodles and sandwiches?’
Tara didn’t know.
‘Yes!’ she said. ‘Let’s put your picnic on our hooks.’
P.9
Bitbit put a grape and some noodles on his hook. He cast it into the lake.
Tara put some cheese and a pineapple sweet on her hook. She cast it into the lake.
P.10
Bitbit pulled his line out of the lake. There were no fish on his hook.
Tara tried to pull her line out of the lake. But it was stuck!
P.11
‘Help me, Bitbit,’ said Tara.
Tara and Bitbit pulled the fishing rod together.
‘This is difficult,’ said Tara.
P.12
They pulled and pulled!
‘Are there monsters in this lake?’ asked Bitbit.
‘No,’ said Tara. ‘This is a very big fish.’
P.13
They pulled and pulled.
Then…splash!
The hook flew out of the lake.
‘Is it a monster?’ asked Bitbit.
‘Is it a big fish?’ asked Tara.
P.14
Tara and Bitbit pulled the hook closer. There was something green on it. Something big!
Tara and Bitbit looked at it.
It was a big, green plant from the bottom of the lake.
P.15
Tara looked at Bitbit.
‘I don’t know how to fish,’ said Tara. ‘I’m sorry.’
‘That’s OK,’ said Bitbit. ‘Today was fun! Let’s tell our friends that we caught a plant fish!’
